The latest album from MAI MAO—an improvisational string duo featuring Kyosuke Terada (6-string) and Shizuo Uchida (4-string)—has been released on cassette by the Chinese label Shoumon Productions. It features a thrilling, deep exchange of improvisation, with the musicians seemingly transporting each other's sounds into a black hole. The result is a massive soundscape—a blend of psychedelic, noise, avant-garde, and jazz elements that have been distorted, mixed, and ground together.
