キムドゥスがファースト・アルバム『シオリッキル』をリリースしたのは86年。当時韓国はまだ民主化する前夜で実質的に独裁強権政治が続いており、キムドゥスにが歌う自由思想が当局に目をつけられ迫害そして弾圧される。その後、91年発表の名曲『ボヘミアン』の曲を聴いて自殺した人がいることを知り10年間音楽から離れ、山に籠り暮らしていたという。2002年にアルバム『自由魂』で復活後もその厭世的、いや、生きることの本質を見つめる深い眼差しを湛えた美しい歌たちは変わることなく、その深さを一層増している。言葉が大きく意味を持つ唄い手でありながら、その言葉がわからずとも、心に深く染み込み、その哀しみや憂い、温かい気持ちに全身が震える。「琴線に触れる」という使い古されて陳腐になっている言葉が、キムドゥスの歌を聞くと、リアルなこととして体感できる。このアルバムは2010年にすべての曲が新録のベスト盤。ブックレットには韓国語・日本語・英語の3ヶ国語によって歌詞が掲載されている。
